Teseo and Briana Spaces

The autonomy apartments for young people formerly under state guardianship have been one of our organization’s dreams come true, aiming to provide continuity for the boys and girls who passed through our residential projects. Despite lacking public funding, our organization has committed to this exciting and necessary initiative.

The Teseo autonomy apartment was launched in January 2022, with the support of Fundación La Caixa. It is a project aimed at young men who, upon turning 18, must leave the child protection system.

The Briana autonomy apartment opened its doors in January 2023 and is dedicated to young women over the age of 18.

With over 25 years of experience working with the most vulnerable children and minors in the protection system, we have seen how, upon turning 18, many of them are not prepared to start an autonomous and independent life. In most cases, they lack the training to secure a job—many do not have a secondary education diploma and must pursue more practical alternatives, which makes them more vulnerable in the job market. Additionally, they have no work experience, which adds another barrier. Most importantly, they often lack support networks and stable relationships to help them navigate adult life.

That is why, for our organization, this emancipation project has always been a goal. To support these young people in their transition and not leave them alone or abandoned again in an increasingly competitive and isolating society. Being present during this stage is crucial, since there are many training and employment programs, but there are few resources where they feel emotionally supported—where someone can respond when they are ill, have argued with their family, or ended a romantic relationship.

Through our project, we respond to all these valid and essential needs, because we know that without adequate mental health, support, and guidance, the path is incredibly hard—and these young people deserve better.
